It's Christmas Movie Time!

I thought I would share a list of some of my favorites!  You may not initially think of all of these as Christmas movies, but they all include the season :)!!

Home Alone 1&2
Santa Clause 1, 2, &3
Edward Scissorhands (to me this is a Christmas movie not a Halloween movie)
A Charlie Brown Christmas
It's a Wonderful Life
Scrooged (with Bill Murray from the 80's)
Elf
The Nightmare Before Christmas
A Muppet Family Christmas
The Muppet Christmas Carol
Gremlins
Untamed Heart
Planes, Trains and Automobiles
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
The Grinch Who Stole Christmas (movie version with Jim Carrey, though I love the cartoon too)

Do you have any favorites you think I should watch? I love movie nights, especially in the winter!

Thrifted!

This is a big thrift for me!! I have always wanted a dress like this, and I have looked through lots of Etsys at slightly too high price tags and swooned.  When I found this, I think I literally did the happy dance.  I just love the colors and the little details, and the fact that you can control how small the waist goes means a lot!  It is in perfect vintage condition and I'm not even going to hem it... it's perfect as is!

This Weekend

We got the Christmas decorating started!
We stayed in and watched movies... it was a pretty rainy weekend.
This movie was kinda sad.  It's not your average love story... I guess it's more of a portrayal of how hard love can be.

It was predictable, but really made me laugh! So I loved it!

Who doesn't love Paul Rudd?  This movie was really cute and a genuine feel-good movie, even at the awkward parts!

Christmas craft madness has begun! DIY's coming soon!!
I also bought these amazingly dorky shoes :)

Hope you had an amazing weekend!

Super Easy Cowl and Leg Warmer DIY

Isn't this a great way to use a well-loved sweater?  I loved this sweater... I'm a little embarrassed to admit I've had it since high school... but it was time to let it go, it was showing its age in places!

If you make one I'd love to see it, just leave a link below :)!

P.S. Check out the cool way Lauren at The Perfect Pear made Leg Warmers!

Thrifted!

I am in love with the simplicity of crew-neck sweaters and for me, the dorkier, the better :).  Last weekend, we set aside a little time to poke through a Salvation Army, and that is where I found these!  The white one was a last minute grab that I didn't get to try on, but I couldn't leave without it! It fits a little wide, but has good length... I'm thinking over skinny jeans with boots. The other two fit like a dream, and I am pretty sure they're vintage 80s which is just a bonus!  They will all be perfect for the cold weather that is already here.

Have you found anything good lately?

This Weekend

I worked on this bag
We caught up on Revenge...
Anyone else loving this show?

Bought some fabric for a couple random projects!
We made and ate some yummy, but very sweet apple spice cake!
Watched this funny, uncomfortable movie since it was streaming on Netflix (and it had Sophia Bush in it)...
Have you watched it? What did you think?

Also, It was finally cold enough to wear one of my wool Pendleton skirts :).

Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

Listening to...

For some reason, in my brain Coldplay is cold weather music.   I guess it's because it's the season I fell in love with one of their songs.  Here is a little playlist I've been listening to while I sew!

I Heart Spray Paint

This summer we collected a few random, little pieces of furniture that needed some love.

I know the teal plant holder (yes it's teal, not blue) isn' pictured in the before picture... sorry!
After a few coats of spray paint, they're as good as new!

Sewing!

Slowly, but surely I am doing all of the projects from LA and Rachel's Home Ec class! I made the tool roll-up for my crochet hooks!
Now, all of my hooks and mini pair of scissors all stay nicely in place instead of all over the floor!!

I also made these....
I made these bows from scraps from a skirt restyle (coming soon)! The little coin purse was a first draft of attempting to bring an idea to life.  I have had little coin purses running through my mind for a while! They might just end up being the packaging for some new items coming to the shop soon!!

What have you been working on lately?

Marcel #2

This Weekend

Husband helped me and we covered the seats and finished the chairs!
(Better pics to come when it's not gloomy and raining.  I was just so excited for them to be done that I had to share right away!!)
I love how they turned out, and they fit in the room perfectly!!!  Now to just find some super cute fabric for pillows (these are just place holders)!

We watched
I had to watch it because I love Gilmore Girls, and it was the perfect cheesy romantic comedy!
I really like how the storyline played out.  It was kinda creepy!

I'm a little bummed that it's so rainy today.  I had big plans to take pictures of the stuff I've been crafting lately... Maybe it will be sunnier tomorrow!

Train Case Restyle

I finally got around to giving the train case I found a little love.  It was pretty stained and it wouldn't come clean, so I thought I would attempt to cover it up!
It's not perfect, but I like it for now.  I'm not in love with the ribbon, but I can always take it off. :)  The woodgrain is contact paper, and I took a piece of vintage sheet and covered the top with triple thick.  It is going to be the perfect yarn case!

Also, I got a surprise in the mail from husband!
Sometimes when husband travels, he surprises me with little things in the mail! I love Marcel... the video can instantly put a smile on my face.  I relate very well to his awkwardness.  I love it!

Dresser to Buffet!

I have talked about this dresser before that is a lovely hand-me-down from my mom.  When we moved,  I wasn't sure where it should go since we didn't need it as a dresser anymore.  I believe it has finally found it's home!!

I have really wanted a cool, vintage china cabinet for this wall to display all of my lovely special occasion dishes, and though I still haven't found that, at least I can finally put all of them away!  I really love how it fits in!
If you've been a follower for a while then you know that this collection has been a labor of love. The quick back-story is that I adore this pattern, didn't register for china when we got married, and am working on collecting service for 12!

It all fits perfectly in the dresser with room for growth!

Yep, only three drawers used!!!

For the Love of Books!

Last month (September) I spent way too much time in front of the TV, and not enough time reading books.  So... this month I did my best to read a few books (since I did set a goal way back when to read two books a month)!

I enjoyed this book very much and it sucks you in from the very start.  It's definitely a page turner and it has just enough romance and mystery to keep you wondering. It is the first in a two part series (It used to be a trilogy, but somewhere along the line they combined them into two).  Since I was, as I mentioned earlier, so sucked into the TV... I thought maybe I should read some of the books that the new shows are based on :).

I didn't really read this book... I listened to it.  I have never done an audiobook before, but I heard so many people say that you HAD to listen to it because her narration was amazing. Believe me, it was. This book made me laugh so hard, I cried at moments!  If you haven't read/listened to this yet, I highly recommend you listen to it!

I usually really enjoy Jennifer McMahon's writing, and while she didn't fail with the mystery... I didn't care for how the ending came together.  It wasn't the shock and awe I had come to know from her other books!  Still a page turner.
Failed to finish.
I am half way through this book, and for right now I give up!  I am not sure if all the anticipation and early reviewers hyped this book up too much or what!  I am not one to give up on a book, but I am sorry... I can't. To me, it is too slow moving to keep my attention.  I am sorry to all those who may love it, I do promise to continuously give it a try and I will keep you posted if I finish it.

On my currently reading list is:
The Help
The No.1  Ladies Detective Agency (book 1)
The Secret Circle (book 2)

Are you reading anything wonderful?  I love hearing about good books!  Sometimes I long for a good book club!

Vintage Craft

My mom found theses wonderful looms for me.

It started when my mom and I were talking recently about how we always used to make pot holders together off of a loom my grandfather made for us.  Then, I told her about the loom set Martha Stewart came out with.
She remembered my grandparents working off a metal loom that was adjustable (metal to me is always more sturdy than plastic).  Sure enough, she found them when visiting the property!  I don't have a circle one like in the Martha set, but the speed-weave looms do lots and lots of things and come in a bunch of different shapes.  My mom even found the instruction booklet (thank goodness or I would have no idea what to do)!

My mom also found this Stitch by Stitch book that is a collection of magazines that were published weekly and included patterns.  I believe they're from the 70's and they are a complete guide to sewing, knitting, crocheting and needlework!  I think I will learn a lot, and I am kind of excited about the vintage patterns inside!
