New York!

I spent all of last week exploring New York City and I loved every minute of it! It was a very spontaneous trip, and I figured with this being the year of more that I better jump on it. Now I am bursting at the seams with creative energy and I am hoping I can use it all before it leaves!

Hello!

We took a long weekend to enjoy the Tulip Festival in Holland, MI... we had a lovely time! I am attempting to get back into the swing of things today, and so I leave you with a lovely picture of tulips I took on the trip.

Happy Birthday Mister!

We took a long weekend last weekend and headed to Chicago to celebrate the Mister's birthday.   We were lucky enough to have his family come along... it was a lot of fun!  We were also lucky enough to experience a balloon art installation at the water tower.
If you ever want to feel like a kid, fill a room with balloons.  It was possibly the most fun thing I have done all year!

Well, that is how I spent my weekend... did you do anything fun?

Discover Ohio - Part 2 Columbus and Cincinnati

We had one night in Columbus and we had so much fun!
While in Columbus, we of course got Jeni's Ice Cream. I walked over 2 miles to get it so I don't feel bad that I had two scoops!  We happened upon a food truck festival and it was fun to poke through and see all the different treats and the crazy long lines people will wait in to obtain them (crazy, I am not that patient!).  I also got to try Rita's for the first time. Oh, how I wish they had one in Michigan!  It is seriously the best thing! I mean, Rita's is so good that we made sure to route our way home going back through Columbus, even though it took a bit longer!

Then it was off to Cincinnati (and a tiny bit of Kentucky)!
...where Waffle House is amazing, and Big Boy is NOT Big Boy (but that is a rant for another day)! The whole reason for going to Cincinnati was to go to the Bunbury Music Festival to see City in Colour, Neon Trees, Passion Pit, and Death Cab for Cutie! We heard that you could park in Kentucky and walk to Cincinnati for the music festival...ummm, how cool is that?? We were sure to check out the Newport Aquarium since we were so close.  They have an amazing shark exhibit and I took like 100 pictures! I highly recommend it if you're ever in the area. Oh... and we randomly tried Chipotle and I can't believe I've been missing out for so long!

We also found a lot at thrift stores along the way!
Don't mind Ernie, he was just so happy we were home.

That is it... things should be getting back to normal around here!

Discovering Ohio - Part 1 Cleveland

Our first stop in Cleveland was at East Coast Custard because to me, the most important part of a road trip is seeing just how much ice cream you can fit in!
Their custard was seriously amazing (I had chocolate) and not like anything I have ever tasted before. I loved it! Even though I felt a little sick halfway through, my cone was too good and I finished the whole thing!

From there it was on to check out the vintage in Cleveland. We stopped at Flower Child Vintage, which was one of the best-curated vintage stores I have ever seen. After picking up a couple lovely trinkets, we headed to Lorain Antiques. I have never seen such a large amount of pure vintage.  It was overwhelming and I can't wait to go back... I wish I could have bought everything!
I did pick up this Pyrex chip and dip set! Also, I should mention that the pricing there was amazing... just slightly higher than a thrift store!

After all that Vintage excitement, it was time to head downtown since the whole reason we were in Cleveland was to see Vampire Weekend at the House of Blues!
It was an amazing venue and a wonderful concert! If you haven't listened to them... you definitely should!

The next day it was time to start heading towards Columbus, but we had to see a little more of Cleveland first. We made stops at Tommy's Resturant and Avalon Exchange. Tommy's has the best veggie burger ever and some awesome milk shakes! Also, Avalon Exchange sells vintage too! I picked up a cute Jordache skirt, new with tags!
After that it was off to Columbus... Part 2 coming next!

Weekend in Chicago

This past weekend we took a mini-vacation to Chicago to celebrate our 2 year anniversary!
As you can tell, these were all taken with our cell phones... I am just happy we finally remembered to take pictures!  It was a lot of fun, and I can't believe that we've been married two years already!
Seems like yesterday!

We're Back

Vacation was wonderful.  It was just what I needed.. the weather in North Carolina was beautiful and the views were breathtaking.

We had a mini adventure as part of the road trip on the way down to stop and get Jeni's Ice Cream in Columbus, OH.  I had heard about this ice cream a few times and always wanted to take a mini road trip to try it, but it never happened.  So when we decided to drive to North Carolina, I asked if we were going to be near Jeni's on the drive.... and guess what, it was only a few minutes off the highway!! Now of course we got there at around 9:30AM, but it didn't matter... you can always eat ice cream!
I got Queen City Cayenne and husband got Strawberry Buttermilk.  I have never tasted such spicy chocolatey goodness.  I have already figured out that you can get it shipped to your door step!

Wilmington was one of the cutest little cities... Lots and lots of cute shops and lovely restaurants.
This is the Dixie Cafe.  I am forever forgetting to take pictures, and by the time I remembered, it was closed.  It is the cutest little diner ever!

We checked out the local vintage shops...

Of course I bought something at each :)

Oh! and a trip wouldn't be complete without cupcakes!

It was amazing... I wish I lived there.  The beach wasn't too bad either, it was lots of fun... Only down side was having to park at a meter :)

Getaway Pics!

Here are the pictures from the little getaway we took to my parent's property!  Everything is so cute/country/vintage!

You sleep in comfy beds covered with handmade quilts :)

This quilt I ended up taking home.  My grandfather made it... he did all the embroidery and my grandmother would put all the squares together! (each umbrella is a different color scheme)

We even eat a vintage diner table!

My grandfather's embroidery stash.... my mom has now claimed it, but she shares!

I think these dolls came in kits and you would put them together... My grandmother collected and put together about 50 of them.  They're all very detailed and each one is so different!

We found a dove nested on the ground....we left her alone..

All the spring flowers were in bloom

so pretty!
