More Snow Means More Scarves

The silver lining to getting more snow is that it gives me an excuse to feed my circle scarf obsession. Some people prepare for the snow by going to the grocery store, but I go to the fabric store, and this time I bought lots of soft, cozy material.  I love making circle scarves... they're so easy to make and you only need a yard of fabric. I posted a few of my favorite tutorials here. 

All the fabric you see above I acquired on sale or with a coupon for super cheap. The black and white polka dot scarf turns into a striped pattern and is super soft. The warmest has to be the flannel scarf, and it is bulky enough that it will cover your ears. All the flannel in my stash might end up in scarf form before winter is over. The others are awesome and cuddly jersey knit that you can easily wear all day.

If you have some extra yardage in your sewing stash, I highly recommend making one. I promise you won't regret it! They might even be worth a quick trip to the fabric store.

Crafted: Wedding Pieces

I had the honor of making a few things for a friend's wedding. She wanted to incorporate the extra lace from her dress and lots of pearls.

Hand beading isn't easy, but it looks much cleaner than glue. Plus, something about it is relaxing to me. I love how it turned out and they looked absolutely stunning on her!

Opening an etsy! I have been toying with the idea since my last craft show, and I decided today was the day to take the leap.  I've only listed a couple things so far... I just wanted to see what the process was like and get comfortable with it. I am hoping to add lots more things by next week, but there are a few things up now if you want to take a look :)!!

Heart Brooch DIY

As promised, here is the second felt heart DIY!!

What you need:

~Scrap felt to cut out hearts

~Brooch pinback 

~Scissors

~Buttons 

~Embroidery thread or thread

~Needle

~Glue 

(Ignore the elastic head band... that was for the previous DIY)

1. Cut two hearts out of felt, each one slightly smaller than the first.  My largest heart is about 3 inches at its widest point.

2. Arrange your hearts and buttons.  Sew on your buttons (or glue if you like), only to the front heart.  Then glue the hearts together.

3. Cut a 1 inch circle out of felt.  Line up the ends of the pin.

4. Make two small cuts and slip the ends through the front. 

5. Sew or glue the pin to the circle. 

6. Glue the circle to the back of the heart.

7. Once the glue is dry, you're all done and ready to wear! 

I am excited to wear this on Valentine's Day and give them to a few friends!

Felt Heart Headband DIY

What you need:

~Elastic headband

~Scrap felt to cut out hearts

~Scissors

~buttons 

~Embroidery thread or thread

~Needle

~Glue 

(I know there is a pin in the picture, but that is for a DIY to come later)

1. Cut three hearts out of felt, each one slightly smaller than the first.  Repeat if you would like to have two like I do. My largest heart is about 3 inches at its widest point.  

2. Situate the largest and middle size and glue together.

3. Pick out your buttons arrange and sew them on.  If you don't want to sew you can always glue.

4. Glue to the other hearts.

5. Cut two circles from felt. (about 1 inch)

6. Sandwich the elastic between the heart and circle.

7. Pin as close to the band as possible without pinning it. 

8. Glue the edges of the circle down without gluing the the elastic. This way the hearts will slide freely on the headband. 

9. When the glue gets tacky, remove pins (you don't want to accidentally glue one in).  When the glue is completely dry, you're ready to wear!

Busy Busy Sewing Day

Friday I spent almost the whole day in the crafty room and mostly at the sewing machine!  Lets see how I did on my to-do list...

Things  I would like to get done tomorrow:

1) Make throw pillow covers  

2) Finish kitchen curtains

3) Frame vintage wallpaper

These pillows are one of the home ec projects.  I love how they turned out :)

Sorry it's a little blurry... It was late by the time I finished :)

I have so much of this vintage wallpaper!! I have feeling it is going to make little peeks all over the house!

I was also able to organize all the vintage bias tapes and trims I found recently, pick up all the scrap fabric that was laying all over the floor (I use the floor as the garbage until the project is done),  and figured out the vintage sheets I want to use to make curtains in the crafty room.  All in all I think it was a good day :)

Since I did so well with the to-do list... time for another one.

This week I want to:

1. Make curtains for the crafty room

2. Finish the bathroom curtain

3. Paint something

4. Make another project from Home Ec

Before Christmas they were on sale for under $100.00 but I couldn't make up my mind on if I really wanted one.... now they're over $200.00 and I wish I would have ordered one.

Since we are snowed in today, I am starting to decorate for Valentine's day!  Here is a little peek of what I have so far :)

Home Ec!

In the summer I signed up for Home Ec.  With the intent of doing the projects as they came... well.. then we bought a house... and now I am just getting around to getting through some of the projects!!

The other day I finished my laptop case!

I used vintage corduroy for the outside!! I thrifted it a few months back and I had no idea what to use it for.... 

I used a quilters cotton on the inside from joann fabric! I know it's bright but I love it..every time I use it, it makes me smile! :)

Before Christmas I made the pencil case for my sister in-law's gift!

it's a late night picture so sorry for the quality!! 

I am really enjoying the class and I am hoping to make a "supplies roll-up" tonight and maybe a pencil case for myself!!

Long Lost Tuesday Treasures!

As I mentioned yesterday, this weekend I was able to find some lovely treasures on our mini adventure.

And of course I have the one bowl missing to complete the set!

Can you believe these amazing juice glasses? This is one of my favorite Corning Ware/Pyrex patterns!

Plastic never been used canisters for the kitchen...love!

Oh! and I just remember that I promised to show pictures of the cowl scarf I made... Here they are! I have already started another one in gray... I love it.. so warm!! The tutorial can be found here!

Yarn Ball Wreath DIY!

The wreath is done and I love it!  It was inspired by this wreath, but I wanted something more simple in all the fall colors I love!

I used a slightly different method than the one that was used in the tutorial.  Here is what I did!

1. I wrapped yarn around 12 2inch styrofoam balls.  While wrapping I would glue to insure that the yarn would stay (same as the other tutorial). It will dry clear. (I used Aleene's tacky glue)

2. I took a large tapestry needle and piece of embroidery thread and strung all the yarn balls together. Then tied it off tight!

3. Then I cut a circle out of a cereal box.

4. Using hot glue, I glued the circle to the back of the threaded together yarn balls.

5. Almost there.... To hang it I braided two of each of the yarn colors together.  You could use anything you wanted... ribbon, fabric strips.

6. Hang and you're all done!

Please remember this is not an original idea it was inspired by the wreath I saw here.  I just wanted something a little different and used the knowledge from reading that tutorials to create this one :).
